Last Wednesday, I embarked on a new journey of yoga at Hawthorneology in the heart of Ocean Grove, NJ. Teaching my first yoga class in two years, was much like riding a bike or the age-old adage of 'once you learn, you never forget'. The setting was perfect: a melange of familiar faces, curious newcomers, a soulful dharma reading, and a thoughtfully curated playlist that resonated with the ebb and flow of our movements.
But the highlight? Those refreshing cold towels, laced with invigorating essential oils to close the session. A sensory treat that lingers in your memory long after.
Post-COVID, many of us felt the strains of the pandemic. Personally, it seemed like a void had been created in the past two years. Shutting down the studio was a decision laden with emotion. Yet, in its absence, I found new avenues to explore, newfound freedom to roam places like DC , Newport, Massachusetts, and Florida, and most importantly, a renewed perspective.
Would I open another studio? Perhaps not, especially not in Monmouth or Ocean County. But the charm of yoga is its universality. You don't need the four walls of a studio or any fancy infrastructure. All you need is a genuine connection to the practice and the heart to teach. Yoga, after all, isn’t confined to a location. It's boundless, timeless, and universal.
And if you’re someone from Ocean Grove, NJ or its neighboring areas, wondering if yoga is for you, let me share this. You don't need extreme flexibility or high-end yoga apparel. If there's a sense of feeling 'stuck', physically or mentally, simply roll out a mat. The transformative power of yoga is immense, and age is just a number.
In this journey of rediscovery, my lesson has been profound. Beyond the asanas and postures, I've learned about the resilience of the human spirit, the nuances of running a business, and the myriad shades of human relationships. Teaching yoga in Ocean Grove at Hawthorneology isn’t just about fitness. It’s about community, connection, and coming home to oneself.
So, whether you're a local or just passing through Ocean Grove, NJ, remember: yoga is a sanctuary, and every mat is an invitation to a journey within.
