Layers of Experience: The Hidden Value of Creativity and Wisdom in the Age of Women in AI

Many of you may know, that I am no spring chicken and I don’t have years of experience in the art, graphic design, or fashion industry. What I have learned and love about AI is that you don’t need it. Sure, certain skill sets help, but they’re not a prerequisite. I am not a traditional artist and have never claimed to be. Honestly, I’m unsure if I could draw a house without it looking like a 5-year-old's masterpiece. But I have an overflowing reservoir of ideas, visions, and creativity inside my head, and AI allows me to bring those concepts to life.

Layers of Experience by Maribeth Woodford

After having an inspiring phone conversation with Deanna Leonard, MBA , another fellow AI Creator in my age group and a former corporate executive with years of wisdom and knowledge, I felt moved to write this. Our conversation reminded me of a fundamental truth: age and experience hold immense, often underappreciated value. This conversation was a prompt (no pun intended) that encouraged me to share why AI is a tool not just for the young, the traditionally creative, or the experienced artists, but for everyone. It is a powerful medium that embraces and amplifies the life experiences we all carry, regardless of our backgrounds.

AI image generation has redefined what it means to be an artist. It is no longer the exclusive realm of professionals or those with technical expertise. This technology has opened up the doors to everyone—people from every walk of life, whether they’ve spent years in creative industries or only just discovered their artistic spark. The beauty of AI is that it democratizes creativity, allowing anyone to turn their imagination into stunning visuals.

This accessibility is especially impactful for those of us women over 45 who might face challenges in finding new roles or outlets for our creativity. The job market can be tough, often biased toward younger candidates, missing out on something invaluable: the dedication, drive, knowledge, and wisdom that come only with experience. Employers may overlook this, but in the realm of AI, these qualities are celebrated and become the core of what makes each creation unique.

You can’t teach the life lessons learned over decades. Those who have weathered life’s storms bring with them patience, resilience, and a perspective that’s invaluable, and AI helps translate that into art. This technology doesn’t just empower the young and tech-savvy; it opens a window of opportunity for older generations to reinvent themselves, blending their experience with new creative potential. Just imagine what someone who’s navigated professional changes, personal growth, and technological shifts over the years can bring to a digital canvas.

AI offers the freedom to explore ideas that may have been set aside while building careers, raising families, or managing life’s many demands. It’s a gateway to rediscover passions or dive into entirely new ones. The art created becomes a tapestry woven from past and present, rich with creativity, wisdom, and insight.

This is the “hidden value of experience”—the depth that older individuals contribute, not just in skill but in life. Their commitment, sharpened by years of growth, paired with an openness to learn, results in creations that are both beautiful and deeply meaningful. AI acts as the bridge that connects these life experiences with modern technology, giving them a fresh voice and a platform in today’s digital world.

So here’s to all of us—the artists, the creators, and the dreamers—regardless of age or background. AI image generation celebrates the diversity of experience, proving that creativity is not the sole property of any one group. Whether you are a professional artist or someone simply reinventing themselves, AI reminds us that creativity is timeless, and our layers of experience only enrich the art we create.
